Carpet Stains
Executive Summary of Carpet Stains by John Inbody
A nice carpet is a great luxury in a home. It only makes sense to maintain your carpets clean look because a dirty carpet will make the entire house look trashy. Accidents and incidents do happen though but not to worry, there are several things you can do to remove those awful carpet stains.
The key to saving your carpet once a spill occurs is the timing. This window will vary with the type of carpet, color of carpet, and if the carpet was pretreated prior to the spill.
Blot up as much of the spill as you can with any type of white cotton towels or plain paper towels. Simply fold the towel up and press down on the stain making sure not to rub the stain in. After one towel has reached its moisture capacity toss it in the garbage and move onto another clean white towel. After you have gotten as much stain up as you can then drizzle some room temperature water or club soda over the stain. Make sure not to drench the area where the stain is but just enough to moisturize the entire area of the stain. Now grab more clean towels and continue the blot and toss process. Keep doing this until the entire stain is gone. You may also use a wet dry vacuum to finish the mess.
Some stains are just more difficult to get out than others. In this case you may want to try some white vinegar and water. A ratio of 2 parts water 1 part vinegar is optimal. Sprinkle the mixture on the stain and continue to blot and toss.
Using this process to clean and remove a stain should work every time. Just be careful not to rub it in and to clean from the outside in towards the center. Once the stain is clean, make sure to completely dry the area either with a fan or a hair dryer set on cool.
